Lesson 3.2: Configuring Astra for a Clean Look

Goal of this Lesson:
Adjust your Astra theme settings to create a clean, distraction-free layout that’s optimized for course content and sales pages — no fluff, just focus.

🧠 Why This Step Matters

A clean layout keeps your site fast, focused, and easy to navigate — which means:

  • Visitors stay longer
  • Students aren’t overwhelmed
  • Your sales pages convert better

Astra makes this easy — you just need to know which settings to tweak.

⚙️ Step 1: Access the Customizer

Go to your WordPress dashboard:

  • Click Appearance > Customize

This opens Astra’s visual editor, where you can control your site’s look and layout.

🎯 Step 2: Set Global Design Defaults

Click Global and adjust these settings:

Typography

  • Base Font: 16px or 17px
  • Headings: Choose a clean, easy-to-read font like Poppins or Open Sans

Colors

  • Keep it simple — 1–2 brand colors max
  • Set a neutral background (white or very light gray)
  • Use your brand color for buttons and links

🧠 Tip: You can adjust these later when you dial in your branding, but clean and simple is perfect for now.

🖼️ Step 3: Set a Clean Page Layout

Click Layout > Container:

  • Layout: Full Width / Stretched
  • Site Layout: Boxed or Full Width (your choice)

Click Layout > Sidebar:

  • Set No Sidebar for Pages and Blog Posts
(this keeps the layout focused and easy to read)

Click Layout > Blog (optional):

  • Set blog archive and single post to no sidebar as well

🔗 Step 4: Turn Off Breadcrumbs & Extras

Click Breadcrumb (if visible) and turn off site breadcrumbs — we won’t need these.

Click Header > Site Identity:

  • Set your site title and tagline (or leave tagline blank)
  • Upload a logo if you have one

Click Footer:

  • Remove or simplify the footer copyright
  • Add something like “© [Your Name] | All rights reserved”

💾 Step 5: Publish Your Changes

Once you’re happy with the look:

  • Click the Publish button at the top

You now have a clean, modern-looking site — ready to build on.

✅ What You Should Have Now

By the end of this lesson, you should:

  • Have your colors, fonts, and layout set for simplicity
  • Be using no sidebars
  • Have a minimal, professional-looking site that works on desktop and mobile
