Lesson 3.1: Installing WordPress and Astra Theme

Goal of this Lesson:
Make sure your WordPress site is ready to go and looking clean using the Astra theme — the perfect lightweight foundation for your course-selling website.

🔁 Quick Recap

By now, you should:

  • Have hosting set up through Hostinger
  • Have installed WordPress
  • Be able to log in to your admin area at yourdomain.com/wp-admin

Now it’s time to:

  1. Clean up your WordPress site
  2. Install the Astra theme
  3. Set the right foundation for building pages with Elementor

🧹 Step 1: Clean Up Your Fresh WordPress Site

When you first install WordPress, it includes some sample content and extra plugins. Let’s remove the clutter.

Go to:

  • Posts > Trash the “Hello World” post
  • Pages > Trash the “Sample Page”
  • Plugins > Deactivate and delete anything you don’t recognize or plan to use (often things like “Hello Dolly” or basic caching plugins)

💡 Don’t delete WooCommerce, Elementor, or anything we installed earlier!

🎨 Step 2: Install the Astra Theme

Go to:

  • Appearance > Themes
  • Click “Add New”
  • Search for “Astra”
  • Click Install and then Activate

That’s it! Astra is now running on your site.

⚙️ Step 3: Configure Basic Astra Settings

Go to:

  • Appearance > Customize

From here, you can:

  • Change your site title and tagline
  • Set a logo (optional for now)
  • Adjust your colors and fonts
  • Set up a clean layout with no sidebar (under Layout settings)

Don’t worry about making it perfect yet — you’ll design everything in Elementor soon.

🔌 Optional: Astra Starter Templates (Skip for Now)

Astra offers “Starter Templates” you can import, but we won’t be using those in this course.
You’ll build custom pages from scratch with Elementor to match your brand and course goals.

✅ What You Should Have Now

By the end of this lesson, you should:

  • Have the Astra theme installed and activated
  • Have a clean WordPress dashboard with no junk plugins or demo content
  • Be ready to start building your pages in Elementor
